A very dark night in Amsterdam - worrying times for any club with a large proportion of Jewish supporters and/or players.

Does anyone else just see the last match as prioritising and necessary rotation?

Call me a fool if you wish, but Spurs did not have a lot of options here. The board has left them underequipped yet again.

I don't get all of the Ange hate.

In a nutshell he is very far from elite. Is one eyed and completely fucking basic tactically, is a bullshitter, a definitive weakling regardless of the bluster, and doesn’t really fucking know what he is doing. He’s spunked away £400mil, it’s his team, his front 3, his one dimensional tactics.

We seem to see the situation from different angles. From my angle, this entire situation is easily identifiable through the eras of many Spurs managers. The common issue through all of it does not stem from managers at all.

I’m not completely closed to the idea that Ange is underqualified, mind you. I just see a constant reset of management as an enabling factor to mask (weakly) the true issue.

But I still want us to win tomorrow and if he is successful with us, (and that is what I want most) I will eat a lot of humble pie myself. I think he is just killing time here though and knows it. Plodding. In a goldfish bowl, with a brassneck :)

And I completely agree with you on the bigger issue. I really do. But. I just think that there is a factor of accountability and personal responsibility to get things done. People dump on Conte but he had enough integrity and was man enough to blow the whistle spectacularly in public. Straight from the horses mouth. And not in his mother tongue either. And that was needed. I think this guy Postecoglou is so flawed. I’d be 100% behind you with your argument for a number of ex managers. And you aren’t wrong in this instance either. But this guy? He’s just seems to be be the epitome of the Peter principle, and that has maybe suddenly become very apparent to him and he his either cynically stretching this out as long as he can or perhaps he is so incredibly narcissistic, ignorant in both senses of the word and just plain deluded, as to believe through repetition, the nonsense he comes out with. There is a complete lack of both humility and competence and for me that really grates, more than it does with most I might imagine.

Great statement of your position. Appreciate that.

“ Our football has been consistent.”

Said Stevie Wonder.

“ Lloris book, clubs mentality: I haven’t read what Hugo said, you have to put context on these things. It could have been a very successful period in the club. It’s easy to focus on the negative. There was a lot right.”

There was a lot that was right. There was an awful lot wrong too. Hence Hugo’s comments. A World Cup winning Captain at that.

Ange doesn’t seem to see context. It’s obvious when you hear him say our football has been consistent. Exactly what context is he using to come to this ludicrous conclusion?

Ange really doesn’t have a clue what was going on in 2019, the comment is purely in his prep sheet from the press officer

Which shows how much of a company man, spineless, bullshitter he is. He wasn’t even here and has no fucking clue what was right or not. Bought and paid for bullshitter. Can’t put weight on anything this guy says.

By the way, you gave a spot on crystal ball before the Villa match. I honestly believed it was a bit bright-eyed at the time, but in retrospect it made sense. Very solid sense.

Shame is that last night was almost as predictable . I do really feel that Ange isn't quite up to the job .

The game is easy if you only know one way - or have players of outstanding quality .

Wish I had your patience BK !!

Thank you for that. However, I’m not exactly patient. I’m just more '‘contemplative' these days than I once was. For years now I no longer view each contest with any real consequence.

It’s all part of a journey, and it is really not up to any of us as individuals to teach a club, a set of players, a manager, etc, anything. All we can really do is observe.

One eventually ends up getting a sick enjoyment out of watching other supporters/fans/followers who have not yet figured that fact out.

Psychologically, part of viewing observationally is quite possibly borne of self-insulation, and of the frequent joy over promotion and frequent deep sigh over relegation.

Over the course of the journey, I realise a lot of it is also borne out of a lot of travel into opposing cultures, “lions’ dens” if you will, and the realisation that all of these people put on one shoe at a time every day just as I do. We all see the same grand spectrum of shit, and we all deal with it. There is alwaya at least some relatable material.

From there, it is just a genuine interest in observing how different people react to things both individually and collectively. Sports to me over time have hence become more macro than micro, if that makes any sense.

I could use some of your optimism at times. I’d at least not always expect the worst from humanity in that case. Expecting the worst is not a beautiful way to ‘live.’

I’ve read that comedians (generally) drink themselves into oblivion and look for the humourous as a coping mechanism to escape the cynicism.

Many sports fans use fandom as a similar escape mechanism from the real shit as well. That is why individual matches are of such consequence to them. ‘Shite, trapped for another week. Someone’s gotta pay.’

I know the post is too long. Just sharing some of my world.

Obama won due to being new blood. Fresh face, fresh ideas, not a familiar justaguy sidekick.

Both parties should stop putting forth the same old hat sidekicks. Harris was a Biden was an Obama sidekick. "Other side bad" was all they gave on offer.

That is the crux of it.

Harris lost because people don’t like paying 8 bucks for a gallon of milk (sorry 1.7l or whatever) and aren’t intelligent enough to understand how that came to be.

Expand full comment

It came to be because of the greatest theft and wealth transfer in history. During the Covid bullshit. The biggest transfer Donetsk from regular tax payers up to corporations in bail out monies and the insane money printing to effect that, alongside disgusting rates of very obvious inflation and criminal price gouging as a result. All done by the Dems and even for the first 9 months of lockdown before the 2020 election cheered on, demanded and screeched for by them.

Should be a good thrashing for Ipswich. Perfect for the narrative that Levy and Ange try to peddle, don't look in to much detail it's all on a trajectory.
