It’s time people realised that Levy went for Ange because there was nobody else willing to take the job, and the result is that it is a complete fuck up.
It was a gamble on a coach with zero experience at this level, his methods are not cut out for this level. The decision to stick with him is a desperate one, it’s got absolutely nothing to do with Daniel ‘changing’ and giving managers time.
We are now the best of the rest who sit below the real best of the rest.
Football fans are fickle ..never more visible than after the Ipswich result.
What wage is Ange on . Some say 5 mil some say 8 mil ?
Everyone knows on here knows Spurs pay low wages.
All I see is the dumbing down of expectation, Top 4 probably to 7th is out of reach.
Whatever the club could have achieved has been hampered by the coaching and training. It maybe that these things will change ..
DJed Spence …I’ve never seen him play badly even ..before Ange ( appearances and add on to be paid to Forest as with the mysterious injury to Kulu in his first season ? ) now his form is down to Ange , decent coaches do not need to wank off about such things.
The very deep cynicism I feel about Spurs started with a coach being fired via text on the touchline…
Spurs fans have been groomed and rinsed for 25 years ..
Summer window …3 x 24 years minimum midfielder ( unless Gray is going to play as a No 6 ) goal scorer/ attacker and a left or right back ..the club needs cover Spence is too good for cover ..and rotation which is a fact of life for any decent squad has to be the norm now.
There should be 3 players for every position. Starter, capable backup, young player who gets a runout every now and then against week cup compo and to keep starter/backup fresh. And rotated every game. This should be obvious. For next year:
Vicario Kinsky Austin/Keeley
Spence Porro ??
Romero Dragusin Phillips
VDV Danso Vuskovic
Udogie ?? ??
Bentancur Gray ??
Bergvall Sarr ??
Kulu Maddison Donley
Johnson Tel ??
Solanke Scarlett Lankshear/Veliz
Son Odobert Moore
I would sell/not re-sign: Davies Bissouma Richi Werner and try to find better players than Sarr Scarlett Dragusin. So 4-7 out, min 6-9 in. Most of the holes are in midfield which needs major revamp. I’m probably forgetting someone.
When you see successful teams, they generally have intelligent, exemplary pros with real quality and great physical robustness who can play a lot and not get injured often. Then they'll have an understudy for their position and also a few very good utility players to move around and fill in the gaps. I'm not sure three direct options for each and every position is the particularly the norm.
I feel Ange has gone beyond true redemption with many of the fanbase, regardless of a decent run incoming, which is far from guaranteed.
He talks about having free weeks to train without matches, apart from the two thirds of the league without European games this is the reality for the bigger clubs. I'm just waiting for the game frequency to build, and the flat-line performances to return as well at the muscular injuries. I've never seen us play well for three games on the bounce under this coach, even with our strongest 11, apart from his first 10 games.
However we are now out of both domestic cups, which might mean the game frequency is finaly at a level that Flange-World can better cope with... Oh I'm so excited!
We really rode our luck against Ipswich and were not as good as the scoreline suggests, we got lucky on several occasions defensively. Although Danso has freshened things up and they are working harder as a unit, and I agree with Ange that the players are working very hard and look committed. However, there is little plan whatsoever or cohesive pattern of play.
I have no confidence in this guy, the inconsistency has been unparalleled and the injuries that have affected mainly the two defensive positions should not have been an excuse for the turgid displays against (for example) the likes of Leicester at home, who had lost their previous seven games!
It felt like the players had had enough of the zero-tactics and muscle snapping training, and that they were hoping that a change of coach was on the horizon. As Daniel has doubled down on sticking with the 'the clueless one', as no other option is available, the players may have been reminded of their obligations and threatened with a loss of earnings, or even the carrot of a bonus for a top 7 finish thrown in?
Whatever has happened, is just another slightly bizarre experience of life under Levy and his favourite diabetes threatened Aussie...
" 'I was framed' he says.....". - Did he say that?
I thought he said, according to the limited transcript: "4:57 spurs safe? Goes to show how ridiculous that notion ever was. Was framed to put pressure on me" The transcript didn't include anything more such as, ".....put pressure on me and the club" or, "I get that when you are in that position, you've got to accept that".
.....I'm not quite sure this was case of him catching the smoking gun just as the police walked in the door, as much as him calling out the press for trying to "make" the news rather than just report it.
Good post by At Large below, but I have to say that its maybe more true that people here, there and everywhere are not paying quite enough attention to what Ange "actually" says, when just a little tweak or two in the reporting fits the narrative better.
That wording was 100% an invention of mine, but in essence he decided to run with how the narrative was jigged to put pressure on him. Which it hadn't.
The narrative, the truth, was that we were hurtling towards the relegation zone. Under his crappy management.
He wants injuries cast as 'bad luck' when, again, the truth was he has form for filling physio rooms.
He’s even admitted that his players get their fair share of muscular injuries and hamstrings. How can he then start saying it’s all about bad luck? It’s all fine when it’s going well, let’s be all ‘Alpha Aussie’ about it in Scotland and wherever else. Suddenly an admission that his methods cause muscle injuries, looks like amateurism at this level. An admission that i'm sure he’s hoping everyone has forgotten about. It’s slightly worrying that so many people have, I certainly haven’t. He hasn’t got a clue….
Bottom line is people here there everywhere pay too much attention to what Ange says and not enough to what actually happens on the pitch.
For example, the biggest tactical change is having Bentancur drop deep much of the time to provide cover at the back and break up play in a Rodri role. In nearly all of our wins he is our most important player. Just look at balls won/ lost on the matchday stats. We’re really playing a 352 or 343 a lot of the time but no mention of that in the pressers just idiocy about player’s personalities and such.
Another thing that’s happening is now that since Johnson and Odobert are back we’re playing with a lot more width instead of trying to ram everything through the middle.
And we’re not exclusively playing everything from the back in the buildup. It was Gray’s longball that led to one of the goals.
Also having Vicario back makes a big difference. We could’ve easily been 2 or 3 nil down yesterday if it wasn’t for the Vicar (not that this would’ve changed the way we play). His distribution is still a little off but he’s a vocal presence out there directing traffic.
I know it’s easy and convenient to get stuck on Ange out or Ange cooking but in the end I don’t care whom the coach is I just want to win something before I die and at least we seem to have turned the corner a little buying useful players like Danso and Kinsky etc. We just need a lot more of them.
And who have Villa bought got in on loan etc . It isn’t just about us. It’s about other clubs as well. I suppose it depends on what you to win a biscuit or a trophy.
3 wins in a row ..one of which we should have lost ..Brentford. Yesterday was a decent win against a team in the bottom 3 .
How quickly the facts around strenuous training high line sprinting lack of rotation ( though this has changed slightly ie Scarlett Spence ) which wore players out , are forgotten .
Ange will obviously get this season , we won’t win the UEFA , we aren’t good enough we lack the tactical nous.
One decent demo and Harry Kane is returning to Spurs next summer and we are buying everyone .
This is what the club is about bullshit over trophies .
Do we have a decent squad ? Only a decent coach will find out , currently all our senior players are deemed inconsistent ( like Spurs) or are out injured .. Ange is Levy’s biggest ever human shield ..
I’m waiting for the dribble stating if we hadn’t had the injuries we would’ve won the league.
Our form has been dreadful since way before the injuries mounted up .
I fail to see low wages as a rebuild I fail to see Ange as the answer and I fail to see Spurs winning anything anytime soon.
1–4 away away to Ipswich is something to hang onto .
The sad reality is Spurs without injuries finish 8 th to 10 th next season without significant investment and a better coach. This of course will be flagged up as progress a bit like learning to wipe your own arse.
Many of the fanbase have washed their hands of Ange. He has changed tactics though, but is this a year too late? What was obvious, when he first went to 3 at the back v Everton, that fans had cried out for, we were garbage! Rarely do managers change their tactics. It is a misnomer. Ange stuck to what he knew and when he didn't have the personnel, it bit him hard.
I like Bentancur, but I have stated in the past he's like a Rolls Royce who has had sawdust thrown in the engine. He does absolutely incomprehensible things on occasion, like pass the ball to no one! His pass to Son for the second goal was very good though, but he should be making this pass more often.
Gray's long pass to Son was quality. When a pass is on it has to be played. Alderweireld was great at this and Romero is pretty decent at it too. When we've had Dragusin and Davies though, this option is not available.
I don't think we are playing with more width, no more than any any time anyway. When Kulu is out there he and Son stay wide. More pace is in the team with Johnson on the right, but he does very little with the ball at his feet. His sole job seems to be to get on the back post. Oderbert hasn't been on the pitch enough in the last 2 games to highlight any notable performance. One thing Son did well yesterday was not to lose the ball so much. This has been his biggest flaw this season, but other teams have stayed tighter to him, knowing he can't run in behind anymore. McKenna made a good change yesterday at half time. Godfrey was getting rinsed.
Not sure where the 2 up top come from (352) though, it has looked a solid 3 throughout the season.
Son did well yesterday because of the poor opposition. The win yesterday whilst great and well needed was against the same.
In the previous games against those almost certainly to be relegated we’ve been absolutely terrible. What we did yesterday we should’ve done in those games also.
Hopefully Son will be sold to a club that might actually win something he deserves that . The modern game demands more than Son can offer and though I think he has been fantastic he isn’t anymore..he isn’t going to Utd they have too many like him. Bayern maybe.
Bentancur I agree drives me mad. He’ll make a great tackle or interception and give the ball away senselessly a second later. Which is why our absolute priority this summer is to bring in a player like Ederson to pull the strings from the back.
The other issues I still see are that when Kulu plays CAM he rarely if at all tracks back. Combined with Porro that exposed the entire right flank. Dorku was alone in acres of space all game but United were just too inept to get him the ball.
Whoever comes in we wont have heard of them. Danso and Kinsky were hardly on anyone's radars. Before that VDV, Oderbert, Bergvall, Yang were all unheard of. Maddison was the only player I got excited about and although he has some great attributes, it is obvious he isn't the full package we had wanted.
In recent history most of that was under the auspices of the Transfer Committee ..The famous 3 go mad in Tottenham ..formed of course after Baldini ( from Roma) blew enough smoke up Levy’s arse and convinced him to buy a load of toilet . We paid 30 mil to Roma for Llamela who basically had a broken back, ( loved him but he was fukt ) Ciriches who was a drunk. Farsi ? The motionless CB .
Baldini also sold Osvaldo to Soton from Roma £ 16 million ..he was deemed such a sociopath Soton let him go ..
Oh and did I say that Roma’s € 46 million debt miraculously disappeared . Baldini was a genius if you supported Roma .
Hence the arrival ..of …these are the 3 players you can have it’s one of these or none at all.
At this point Poch declared himself a coach not a manager ..by then he was finished with Levy and licked a fat lazy wanker like NDembele and the glass ankled LoSellon out of spite .
And he we are some six years later debating whether Ange should stay or go after beating relegation folder 1-4 .
Next up Sons new contract ..please ..This is not a love song this is not a football club.
Delap was a handful, but he didn't score. If we had paid £65m for him he'd be getting daggers for not getting at least one. That is the difference between being a fan of Spurs and of Ipswich. We expect more. That stated, I'd prefer Delap to Solanke and I think we've all seen enough of Tel as a No. 9. He is a wide player, so he needs playing out there.
Ange has to expect and accept the media circus that comes with falling so low. Even a few on here were getting worried/excited of being relegated and the media simply expanded on it as it has to make news, even if it is ridiculous. The only way we were going to get relegated is if we had none of the injured ever returning. That was never really going to happen. As for the media they are clutching for news at the moment. If Liverpool win today the league is basically over. The relegation battle is over too, so that leaves the top 5, as this is the only thing for the media to get excited about.
The 4th/5th place is annoying me, it has all season. If we had beaten Leicester twice and Ipswich at home, we'd be right in the mix for it and let's be honest, these are results that should have been in the bag. The main reason we are not is we have a wafer thin squad with some very average players that struggles to compete, but most teams are in the same boat. What the likes of Newcastle, Villa, even Brighton have had is there big players stepped up. I don't think ours did, probably they were too shattered or injured or resting or being sore! We do lack a player(s) who is unpredictable and has a spark. Even Wolves have Cunha.
I honestly do not think another manager would have coped that much better because of our squad issues. Someone might have got us 9 extra points, but would it have been good enough? I doubt it. I cannot see Ange being in charge next season unless he wins the Europa, so who is next for the chopping block?
Could it get any worse with Ange in charge? I'd like to think a more tactically astute manager can progress this squad better. At times Ange has been naïve, but is he now changing?
Excuses made for this bloke are insane got battered with a full squad he has wrecked more than half the squad . It’s pathetic..,The Ange and Levy cult ..lap it up .
Both these people run on self belief ..it isn’t enough ..not for the football it isn’t ..
There’s little evidence in his helm thus far at Spurs to support the claim that Ange is a top tactician, game manager or squad manager.
We weren’t winning anything this year with the current squad. Did Ange running them into the ground help loosen the purse strings to acquire Kinsky Danso and Tel? Players that should’ve been brought in last summer of course but still?
In the end I don’t think Ange is that clever and for sure we can find better managers but the real problem is was and always will be Levy.
Sadly, I agree. He’s happy to be there as he really never earned it so is perfect for Levy who can throw him the odd scrap here and there. We will see if his 2nd season boast comes true but I doubt it.
I can’t add any more context to his comments around him being the victim of a witch hunt than what other sane minded contributors on here have already wrote.
The bloke is either paranoid, a psychopath, out of his depth, or more likely a mixture of all 3.
I watched the entire game and we were dead lucky not be 2-0 down after 5 minutes.
Another get out of jail free card for the Fat Fraud, this time dished out by relegation doomed Ipswich Town. That’s a more accurate analysis of the current situation.
Paid the money to deal with the issues and over come them not just fair weather. Plus the BS about how he turned around spence as well (behaviour that would have had the sexuals at the Dr's getting signed off if they had that in the workplace).
He clearly isn't this level and coming out swing with a win on a par with Southampton shows the measure of the man. But at least he is playing the victim card still even if Deki isn't.
We have lost more matches than 16 of the 20 teams in the EPL this season and we sit in the lower half of the table in 12th.It would be interesting to extend analysis to cover the period after his first ten matches in charge? Escaping a relegation fight is not a measure of success. If we get some players back from injury having been out of action for extended periods it does not solve anything. Now we are out of the League and FA Cups the crumpled coach driver is now happy as we are only playing on average one game a week. Once again that solves nothing. It is all sticking plasters to cover the issues of owners with zero ambition, a coach totally out of his depth and a squad as thin as an After Eight Mint. Let’s remind ourselves that supporters are still being charged Champions League title challenging ticket prices for a product that sits at Championship League level.
Watched the highlights on MOTD. If you had to cobble together a video short of Spurs season so far. Those first 6 minutes summed us up. Slow to start. Chaos at the back. Got out of jail. Their goal for instance. Weak challenge to win the ball nobody marking the player shooting. All very skool boy imo. Finally on that. Their disallowed goal. Yes, it was offside. 4 players in fact. But, none of our defenders were aware of the danger at that back post had it not been.
Back to Thick. Son unplayable ! Not sure what game he was watching to make that statement. Yes, he set up the first two goals. But from that position it’s exactly what he’s supposed to do coming in from wide.
Thick tells us he was being set up. No mate ! Nothing could be further from the truth. You’ve been found out. You’ve been weighed & measured. You’re still out of your depth. Those first 6 minutes against Liverpool or even a poor City we would’ve been 3-0 down and probably on the end of another tonking.
We’ve beaten two poor sides. Still along way to go. You keep your job only because nobody else wants it.
It is really quite unbelievable that only 1 goal was conceded. Is there a slight improvement, or so negligible that it is all just to be chalked up to fortune?
I'm not quite ready to pass judgment so steadfast that I either watch each Ange interview only for material that supports my own conclusion, or I post repeated opinions that pretty much serve no purpose but to stir up an irritable wave of dissent.
Tactics have changed/adjusted significantly. I think most engaged spectators are finally begrudgingly able to acknowledge this. However, the narrative there shifts to similarly to the narrative on playing Spence: Only because he was forced by injury to do so.
As far as tactics, it does look to me like Ange got there more by default need than anything else.
However, listening to Ange's material on the Spence subject, it sounds to me like Spence just required a different set of parameters than other players to help him get to a more mature approach. It is believable considering the nature of Spence's failed loans and aftermaths.
I'm not completely sold either direction, but I certainly know not to rely on modern sports journalism to get me to a conclusion. I can draw a very dark line under my conclusion that modern sports journalism is in vast part incompetent and untrustworthy.
I actually think bar a few weeks, the media have been remarkably supportive of him, especially considering his results. The victim card is another low amongst many this season. It will be the fans fault after the next battering.
We are an absolute mess…

It has to be now with so many games crammed in.
Respectfully, it is kind of difficult to carry a roster of 33.
We have 36 players now in current squad
Ah, you are counting the unused kids as well that rarely make the active. Ok.
Players generally want to play.
I can hear Pochettino's answer in my head. "They sign to train."
Werner is on loan and I don’t see him with us next season.
Daniel Levy..
I feel Ange has gone beyond true redemption with many of the fanbase, regardless of a decent run incoming, which is far from guaranteed.

Yup.
Twattish behaviour…
He’s press conferences in Oz and Scotland are all littered with the same toss. He’s a bonafide nitwit. Daniel’s biggest screwup yet. No mean feat.
Thought it at the time, utter desperation on Daniel's part. All entirely self inflicted by the micromanager, of course...
Bottom line is people here there everywhere pay too much attention to what Ange says and not enough to what actually happens on the pitch.

Unfortunately I think that is more circumstances and players following there own thing.
If you think back to the city game, that 6 role was potentially imposed plus a fb held back.
Attacking wise we were more on the counter, which I also think works better for Kulu and Sons games.
Days later we revert to a traditional Angeball set up in the defeat to Ipswich.
I know Ange has said in the past he knows all the tactics but like previous coaches sometimes player don’t do as they’re told, just ask Jose and Toni.
And who have Villa bought got in on loan etc . It isn’t just about us. It’s about other clubs as well. I suppose it depends on what you to win a biscuit or a trophy.

Spurs do not attract the full package ….
Depends what you mean by ‘Full Package’. We’ve signed some total cocks…
Groomed and rinsed.
I’ll bet you right now Ange will be back next season regardless of Europe.
Fair thoughts.
Excellent
I can’t add any more context to his comments around him being the victim of a witch hunt than what other sane minded contributors on here have already wrote.
The bloke is either paranoid, a psychopath, out of his depth, or more likely a mixture of all 3.
I watched the entire game and we were dead lucky not be 2-0 down after 5 minutes.
Another get out of jail free card for the Fat Fraud, this time dished out by relegation doomed Ipswich Town. That’s a more accurate analysis of the current situation.
Hahaaaaa
He is a coach that is really toxic.
They were aware enough to step forward for a successful trap. It was nicely set and sprung.
They did. Three of them were in line. It’s the player that scored they weren’t aware of that’s what worried me.
Should’ve been 3 down in the first 10 minutes ..better clubs will punish Spurs when do we play one.?
Bang on, JG. He's playing the victim card here but he's like an Arsonist moaning about why the fire brigade puts fires out.
Ange is now claiming the our full on charge to relegation was manipulated to make him look out of his depth.
The Aussie Gross.
